Some more thaugts about a book:
"we the media".
Grassroots journalism by the people, for the people. Dan Gillmor, 2006, O'Reilly Media.
Good reading! Actually for me, who I am not so competent in blogging, twittering, making my own media. There is many reasons why people should make own media. Or remake media. One must live every second dignified life.
Paul Saffo, Director of institute for the Future says on acclaim for book: "Gillmor presents a compelling and optimistic map of journalism's future. This book is must-read for anyone who cares about what they read and everyone who wants to be more than a bystander in this revolution in the making."
The Read-Write Web is still young, about 5 years. If it can be comparable to childhood, there is lots of joy in this age. Also we can say, that the Web is huge playground with lots of surprises and tools. But by playing always the creativity is growing, too. And new thougts is coming up. (page 23)
Is the Earth a playground too? Is the Media so powerful like people wants? Gillmor describes lots of examples, where problems were solved at the moment because of the internet. Big corporations and small ones cannot hide almost nothing what is not so fair or good. Big Brother is watching you! -comes in mind. (Big Brother is a fictional character in George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.) Totalitarianism is not a smartest way to manage things. But we need to take a time to think about and discuss in every century again and again. To learn our lessons by making mistakes also and find the way to go on.
Blogging is the easiest way to talk about things quickly. Some suggestions by Robert Scoble, one of the most prolific Microsoft bloggers (page 77) are good to read.
Thats why the speed on the internet media is good! The media is not only newspapers, radio and television anymore. There is mail lists and forums, weblogs, wiki, sms, rss, mobile-connected cameras, internet "broadcasting" and so on.
Of course there is problems too, with jurisdiction and ownerships for example. Somehow people always learned from other cultures. There is all to win actually in life, also in new media if its not forgotten that "we the media".
There is a chapter of rules for new-world PR and marketing (page 85).
The role of journalists is changed. (page 102) Also there is different styles of blogs. "If your goal is debate and discussion, a network of blogs is a more powerful medium than a single blog with lots of readers," Cameron Barrett was said, and also "When your goal is message or top-down communication, then a few blogs with a lot of readers is more powerful."
I would end this short report with Tim Berners-Lee remarkable sentence, said in February this year, that "we're now in a Web of Data, rather than a Web of Documents. " / www.readwriteweb.com /

Audacity class
There as an exercise what I made at Nuno Correias digital audio course.
We used Audacity program. First thing was recorde a voice, then optimize it. My idea is not so creative, but for my very first sight on Audacity I cant took too big thing to do. Hope there is information for some people anyway - Why choose Interactive Media and Knowledge Environment at Tallinn University. Final mp3 file is saved by Audacity project, where I mix voice and two tracks music piece.
I used free downloaded music by AnalogX, a Moments and a World of Magic.
I used in mixing multiple effects, like: normalize, equalize, remove noise, bass boost, echo, fade in and fade out. I cutted the audio line slices and copy some parts of it.
As a graphic designer i really enjoy this picture of audio as i say so. Its good to see, that audio can modified like material.
link is coming... when file is uploaded.

Internet activism? Maybe it works by sending an e-mails too not only on webpages. I have experience to see things happen and change by the people who in mail lists when everybody is coming to talk about something. For example in kindergardens parents list.
And also come in my mind Edgar Savisaar SMS campain, when lots of people in Estonia got SMS with text:"Rise and Shine". I guess it was in the morning of voting day. About this was talked a lot in the web too.
Maybe its good if people is more active in the net. Maybe we can say, that there is internet passivism too, when people dont react on talks in forums and some awful things and accidents had happened in world.

I had a time to read the book at home, what Mauri suggested: Dan Gillmor´s "we the media". ISBN 0-596-10227-5
Few words about book: grassroots journalism, everyones media, storytelling, media at little cost and (in theory) with global reach - and i´m going to read ahead. Author is journalist, who left his job in office and started to making own news as a web publisher. He says: if you dont like these news what offered in tv and newspapers, make them yourself. All of the new newsmaking is possible because the Internet. We live in a great new era. New media is not so bad sentence, beacause the word new marks that this is always new, always in movement. There I am surprise myself, its my third blogtext at all. Lets mediate! Imm-mediately!

i have quick view to online article
By using media there is cool sentence from McLuhan: "People describe the scratch but not the itch." Its true, the reason is not the first thing coming in our mind, the effect is stronger.
We understand media depends of our background, knowledge and opinions. McLuhan: Each media "adds itself on to what we already are", realizing "amputations and extensions" to our senses and bodies, shaping them in a new technical form. As appealing as this remaking of ourselves may seem, it really puts us in a "narcissistic hypnosis" that prevents us from seeing the real nature of the media.
For me, the medium of typography is best known. Depends of my graphic designer work. Actually there is lots of different languages in media, each with own systems and structures. Signs is everywhere. If we understand and can create connections between different fields of media - to mediate - the media is making visible what is invisible.
McLuhan's concept of "media".
There is lots of ideas for me, what is interesting. Like "hot" and "cool media". And the meaning is "opposite way". Hot is this what man can receive calmly - like listening the radio. Cool media is this where we take a more active position, like watching television.By using media there is cool sentence from McLuhan: "People describe the scratch but not the itch."
